Our MISSION
The world as we know it is slowly deteriorating. Most plastics bottles and tin cans are discarded after one-use, and their inability to degrade quickly makes them a hazardous polluter to the environment. In 18th Feb 2020, a report by the World-Wide Fund For Nature (WWF) revealed:
-
China, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam altogether account for around 60% of plastic debris entering the ocean.
-
Malaysia wastes about 16.78kg of plastic per person annually, the highest among the six countries
Why do we need to address this issue?
-
Waste (plastic) is being dumped into landfills – pollution
-
The air, the ground, and even the waters are affected
-
Lesser tress, lesser clean air
-
Mismanagement of wastes creates breeding grounds for pests
-
Disease will be more rampant and deadlier
-
Frequency of Natural Disaster increases which cause more casualties globally
Have we done enough?
-
Malaysia's recycling centres provide free services that collect recyclable wastes from homes. Although it could be successful, not all areas are covered.
-
Recycle bins are placed in housing areas – helps encourage the public to dispose of waste in a sustainable manner. Similarly, it has not been implemented in all housing areas.
-
Polystyrene containers and plastic bags are banned nationwide in 2018 – to help eradicate use of single-use plastic bags and adopt use of the more sustainable reusable bags. This has been very useful in reducing plastic waste, although it is not fully reinforced
According to an ongoing temperature analysis conducted by scientists at NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), the average global temperature on Earth has increased by a little more than 1° Celsius (2° Fahrenheit) since 1880. Two-thirds of the warming has occurred since 1975, at a rate of roughly 0.15-0.20°C per decade. If this continues, the earth would become permanently uninhabitable.
Despite all the efforts to help save the environment, it isn't practical for the average Malaysian. Recycling centres are far and few, and most people will not make time to go recycle their waste.
Not enough is being done, therefore we need your help to sign this petition. Support us in our effort to get the following things done:
-
Trucks to collect recyclable material
-
Recycling bins in every residential area
-
More public garbage bins located around the sidewalks
By doing this, you will be supporting us in our collective mission to save Mother Earth before its too late :)
